Education/Outreach Committee

The DISC Education/Outreach Committee has submitted a workshop proposal to the Delaware Teacher Center.

Delaware's MOST WANTED: Understanding the First State's Nastiest Invasive Species

Blackbird Creek Reserve, Townsend, DE       Tuesday, August 14, 2012

 Draft Agenda

Teachers will participate in content presentations and hands-on activities, from state natural resource educators, focusing on the top terrestrial and aquatic invasive species of Delaware and the region. Once teachers are fully briefed on invasives, they will participate in an invasives-removal exercise at the workshop site. Teachers will receive a wealth of classroom resources and other materials, which will be aligned to state standards where possible.

At the end of the invasive species workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define the term invasives species
  • List at least five vectors of invasive species
  • Identify at least five of Delaware’s terrestrial and aquatic invasive species
  • Introduce their students to Delaware’s “Most Wanted” invasive species
  • Plan an invasive species removal project
